What is Lateral Thinking?

Edward de Bono’s brain research lead to his discovery that the brain is self-organising system that routinely organises input into patterns. The brain is not designed to be creative. Dr. de Bono developed Lateral Thinking tools that enable us to be laterally across patterns, thereby opening up new perceptions, concepts and ideas. The phrase ‘Lateral Thinking’ is now included in the Oxford English Dictionary and id defined as ‘a way of thinking which seeks solutions to intractable problems through unorthodox methods or elements that would normally be ignored by logical thinking.’

What to expect of the course

  • This is a tool-based approach to creative thinking
  • These tools work
  • Some of the tools will feel awkward at first
  • The focus while learning is on the methodology versus the results
  • Lateral Thinking is a skills that each if us can practice and master
  • As a skill, Lateral Thinking requires a lot of practice

PLEASE NOTE: This workshop will be delivered by an accredited de Bono Institute Facilitator.

Benefits of Lateral Thinking

  • Liberates and harnesses the creative energy of an individual or team
  • Provides a language to guide idea generation
  • Provides the confidence and the tools to help us seek different and better alternatives in any given situation.
