Continuing Professional Development

Policy

The Certified Professional Manager (CPMgr) must complete the specified amount of CPD to maintain their status, and members who fail to meet the requirements may lose the designation.

The requirement is ninety (90) hours per triennium. Of this amount, a maximum of thirty (30) hours of unstructured CPD may be claimed per triennium. CPD activities must meet the definitions below and a CPMgr must provide satisfactory evidence of completing the required hours every three (3) years.

Definitions

For these guidelines, CPD refers to activities that:

  • Relate to member's employment
  • Assist the individual in their job performance
  • Are in addition to an individual's normal job function
  • A member chooses as relevant to their job function or future career progression in their chosen field
  • Are not limited to AIM SA activities only

The aim of these guidelines is to demonstrate the flexibility in eligible CPD activities. The crucial factor in determining eligibility is that activities must be relevant to an individual's job function.

Structured Hours

(Minimum of sixty (60) hours per triennium)

Structured activities must have a clear objective and an appropriate framework to allow for those objectives to be met. Types of activities that are eligible include:

  • Lectures, workshops, CBT, videos, audio-tapes
  • Distance learning activities
  • Courses presented by educational institutions and professional organisations
  • Participation in discussion groups
  • Working as a lecturer, tutor etc. on a structured course
  • Presentation of seminars, lectures on relevant topics
  • Service on a technical committee/panel
  • Other activities as approved by AIM SA

Unstructured Hours

Maximum of thirty (30) hours per triennium
  • Unstructured activities include work related reading and personal research

Reporting

Reporting will be on a "rolling" triennium basis. Appropriate documentation will be sent to members with subscription renewal notification at the time that reports are due. CPMgrs should maintain an annual record of activities completed so that accurate details can be submitted.

Failure to report/non completion of CPD requirement

The Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct provides that to maintain the CPMgr designation, a member must complete the required number of hours per triennium.

Members who do not report their hours by the required time or have not completed the minimum hours of CPD as designated in these guidelines, may forfeit their Certified Professional Manager status. For further information contact AIM SA, Membership department on (08) 8241 8000.
